Mudlark has netted world all-language rights to How We Fish: The Love, Life and Joy of the Riverbank by comedian Paul Whitehouse and fishing expert John Bailey.
The book, acquired in a deal between publishing director Joel Simons and agent Alexandra Cann, will publish in October.
Mudlark called the title "wonderfully warm and funny". "The two friends celebrate the hobby they share and everything that comes with it: the laughs, the appreciation of nature, the elation when you reel in what you were hoping for, the peaceful solitude and, most importantly, the lifelong friendships," the publisher explained.
Bailey serves as a fishing consultant on the BBC series “Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing” which sees Whitehouse and fellow comedian Bob Mortimer sharing stories and laughs in some of the UK’s best angling spots. How We Fish will be illustrated by Carys Reilly-Whitehouse, whose work has been used in merchandise for the TV show.
Whitehouse said: “John and I are aware that many people who fished as children but lost their way would appreciate a simple helping hand back to the path of righteousness. This book is intended as an entertaining but practical way to engage with angling for the first time or the second.”
Bailey added: "I have fished passionately since the age of five and that’s a long time ago. In many ways, my involvement with ’Gone Fishing’ is the pinnacle of this thrilling angling adventure. Both Paul and I want this book to help others along the marvellous piscatorial path we both have travelled with such joy. It’s our love letter to the sport that continues to thrill us every cast we make.”
