Mudlark has snapped up a “compelling” chronicle of Scotland’s most notorious unsolved murders by journalist Francisco Garcia.
Jack Fogg, Mudlark’s former publisher, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, for We All Go Into The Dark from Richard Pike at The C&W Agency. Joel Simons, publishing director, is now editing. It will publish on 2nd March 2023.
The book, which follows how the infamous Bible John cold case has morphed across generations, is described by the publisher as “a provocative examination of our collective obsession with ‘solving’ historic crimes”.
Bible John’s shadow hung over Glasgow in the late 1960s. He sexually assaulted and murdered three women, leaving their bodies outside to freeze in the Scottish winter. He was never caught or identified. But the intervening years have spawned a legend that has never quite lost its grip on the popular imagination of Glasgow, or Scotland as a whole. The killings provoked the country’s largest-ever manhunt, and countless words, suspects, books, documentaries, earnest speculation, pub theorising and bouts of urban mythmaking.
Simons said: “This is an extraordinary and unforgettable investigation into Scotland’s most notorious crimes, pieced together by one of the most exciting and original journalists working today. We can’t wait to publish Francisco’s second book with Mudlark.”
Garcia added: “I’m delighted to be working with Joel Simons and Mudlark on my second book, a story that has never been too far away from my thoughts over the past few years. It couldn’t have gone to a better home, or more generous editor.”
