Mudlark, an imprint of HarperCollins, has signed the second book by journalist Joel Golby, tackling "our collective obsession with both documenting and reviewing" modern life, and titled Four Stars.
Publishing director Joel Simons acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Jon Elek at United Agents. Golby is now represented by Zoe Ross at United Agents. The book will be published on 11th April 2024.
Four Stars, which follows Golby’s debut memoir Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant, also published with Mudlark, is a "hilarious, irreverent and sharply observed journey through modern living". The publisher said: "From almond croissants to the concept of life itself, Joel Golby embarks on a journey through modern living, leaving no stone unturned – no one thing unreviewed – to consider what it all really means; why we all care so much about opinions; and whether, deep down, it’s better to live a life that’s good rather than, well, five stars out of five."
Golby said: "I would rate the experience of writing the book at one or maybe two stars but my excitement at actually releasing it as a solid five."
Simons added: "I’m pleased to be working with Joel on publishing his second book on Mudlark. It’s a glorious work by one of the most original non-fiction authors working today."
