Manchester University Press (MUP) has landed a “searing and unflinching” account of the coronavirus crisis and future of the NHS by BBC health correspondent Hugh Pym.
Kim Walker, publisher for trade non-fiction, acquired world language rights to Unfit: The Covid-19 Crisis and the Future of the NHS from the Andrew Lownie Literary Agency for an undisclosed sum. Manchester University Press will publish in spring 2024
Walker said: “Hugh has been the reassuring presence on the BBC for years and we’re delighted to be publishing his book. With access to those at the top in healthcare and government, Pym’s searing and unflinching account lays bare the raft of failures and political decisions that have jeopardised public health and considers what is in store for the future of the entire NHS.”
Simon Ross, chief executive, added: “Hugh Pym’s book fits perfectly with our values and aims to bring intelligent well-written, well-researched non-fiction to the curious reader. Based on interviews and conversations with a wide range of the leading players at the top, the book provides an authoritative inside story of the biggest peacetime crisis in modern times from one of the most trusted voices in the British media, the perfect antidote to Hancock’s Pandemic Diaries (Biteback).”
