Myleene Klass has written an “essential” modern household manual for HarperCollins imprint HQ, based on her TikTok series.
Rose Sandy, non-fiction editorial director at HQ, acquired world all language rights from Severine Berman at The Mutha Ship. HQ will publish They Don’t Teach This at School in March 2022 in hardback, e-book and audiobook.
The blurb explains: “Inspired by her popular TikTok series, musician, influencer, mother of three and stepmother of two, Myleene Klass shows us how she builds independence and resourcefulness in her children in this illustrated guide to over 100 of the most vital skills, challenges and scenarios that school doesn’t prepare us for. In this book you will learn everything from performing first aid and CPR, to speaking in public, knowing what to do in a house fire and how to foster strong physical and mental wellbeing.”
Klass said: “How many times have you said to yourself ‘I wish they taught that at school’? We all learned about periodic table, and to play the recorder but what about CPR? How to get out of a fire? Or mental empowerment? How to walk into or more importantly, out of tricky situations. As a daughter of a naval officer and an NHS nurse, plus living quite an unusual, unexpected life, has meant I’ve learned a mixed set of skills. Being helpless is the worst feeling in the world but when you have information, it’s not only empowering, you have the confidence to achieve anything. This book will help you do that. It’s the stuff we weren’t taught at school but wish we had been.”
Sandy commented: “Whether you know Myleene for her playing, her presenting on TV and radio or her brilliant social media sharing, she’s become a real household name. Her genius hacks on how to explain household budgets to kids went viral, and as she’s continued to share her brilliant tips on how to handle whatever life throws at us, it’s clear that Myleene has the no-nonsense advice we all need to feel more confident and capable (I know I do!). Now this book will put all her brilliant tips, tricks, hacks and how-tos in one beautiful package.”
