Neem Tree Press has bagged Looking for Lucie, a YA coming-of-age novel from Amanda Addison.
Archna Sharma, c.e.o. and publisher, acquired world rights in all languages directly from the author. The novel will be published in paperback and e-book in April 2024.
Looking for Lucie follows Lucie Hansen who secretly takes a DNA test to discover her heritage. While waiting for the results, "readers are exposed to the realities of casual racism amid a teenage identity crisis and the complexities and moral issues surrounding DNA testing".
Addison commented: "When I began writing Looking for Lucie it was in many ways a response to receiving the results of my own DNA test and an exploration of the question I’ve always been asked: where are you really from? Looking for Lucie is a contemporary coming-of-age story of identity and self-discovery. It draws on my background in art and interest in science as a vehicle to understand ourselves and the world around us.”
Sharma said: "Looking for Lucie explores the nature-nurture debate and the rising interest in DNA testing, sparking discussions on identity and the universal desire to connect with one’s roots, while also highlighting the possible negative impacts of uncovering hidden family histories."
