Neon Squid snaps up TikTok star Rodgers on vaginal health

Neon Squid has snapped up TikTok star Dr Allison K Rodgers’ children’s book, We Need to Talk About Vaginas, illustrated by Annika Le Large. 

Sam Priddy, co-publisher, acquired world rights directly from the author. The book will be published in February 2023. 

Dr Rodgers is a gynaecologist and fertility doctor whose videos on her TikTok account discuss common issues for young women ranging from how to deal with menstrual cramps to coping with embarrassing parents. In her book Rodgers "simply explains everything from why we have periods to sex and consent". Readers will learn the "correct names for everything and discover the incredible self-cleaning properties of vaginas". 

Rodgers commented: "Young people are growing up in a very different world than we did, and they need to understand their body and how it works to be empowered to make the best decisions on health and safety. What makes this book so innovative, is that everyone with a vagina, regardless of their skin colour, body size, or identity can see themselves in these pages. Sensitive topics are reviewed without shame or fear. This book will help start conversations between young people and their adults about complex and sometimes difficult-to-talk-about topics regarding sexual health, wellness, and safety.
