Jonathan Cape has acquired a new novel by Man Booker prize-winning author Howard Jacobson about love in old age.
Entitled Live a Little, the book is described as "a funny, tender, wickedly observed novel about love in old age". It stars two characters, both nonagenarians, one who is forgetting everything (including her own children) and the other who cannot forget the shame of a childhood incident.
Dan Franklin at Jonathan Cape acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Jonny Geller at Curtis Brown. Cape will publish in July 2019.
Franklin said: "Only Howard could write about love in old age and make you shake with laughter even while you are drying your tears. Live a Little contains some of his very best writing."
Jacobson won the 2010 Man Booker Prize for The Finkler Question and his novel J was shortlisted for the prize in 2014. His most recent novel was Pussy, his response to seeing Donald Trump becoming President of the United States.
