Michael Joseph is publishing a new novel by Jojo Moyes featuring Lou Clark, the same protagonist as in her previous novels Me Before You and After You. The as-yet-untitled novel will be published in hardback, e-book and audio formats in spring 2018.
Plot details so far are scant, but Moyes revealed "Lou heads to New York and finds herself torn between her old life and her new". It will be the third in what its author anticipated after the sequel would be a trilogy of books to star the character.
Moyes said: "I always knew that once I committed to write the sequel to Me Before You I would also write a third book; I saw it quite clearly as a trilogy. Revisiting Lou has been a joy, as I push her into a completely new country, a brand new world, and a house full of secrets. With her usual blend of humour and emotion she has to ask herself some pretty fundamental questions - not least which side of the Atlantic does she really belong? I hope readers enjoy this new adventure as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it."
Maxine Hitchcock, publishing director at Michael Joseph, added: "In Lou Clark, Jojo Moyes has created a character who we can’t forget, a protagonist who we have seen grow and evolve and who we’re not quite ready to leave behind. We are delighted and excited to be reunited with her again and know Jojo’s legions of fans will be too."
According to PRH, Moyes has sold 29 million copies of her novels around the world. Through Nielsen Bookscan, she has sold 2.6 million books for £13.1m.
Me Before You, which originally published in 2012, has been her biggest seller, shifting 1.1 million UK print copies across both editions (the original and film tie-in) after last year's release of the film adaptation starring Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin. The sequel, After You, has sold over half a million copies since publication in 2015 and over 5 million copies worldwide, according to PRH; 496,756 UK print copies since June last year through Nielsen Bookscan.
