New post-apocalyptic fiction from Caldecott to Jo Fletcher Books

Quercus’ SFF imprint, Jo Fletcher Books, has acquired a new duology from Andrew Caldecott: "an ambitious and entirely original take on post-apocalyptic fiction".

Publisher Jo Fletcher acquired world rights in Momenticon and the sequel from Ed Wilson at Johnson & Alcock Literary Agency.

While Caldecott's agent Wilson called Momenticon the writer's "most ambitious and playful work yet", Fletcher said reading it was "an absolute delight". She expanded, "it shares the subtle weirdness that made the Rotherweird trilogy so compelling, while being an ambitious and entirely original take on post-apocalyptic fiction. It has an Alice in Wonderland feel about it—so when the Mad Hatter turned up, I wasn’t in the least surprised! It’s a really special story, told as only Andrew Caldecott can."

The synopsis reads: "The world has become a dangerous place. Despite the environmentalists’ best efforts, the atmosphere has turned toxic, destroying almost all life. The few survivors live in huge bubbles protected from the atmosphere by chitin shields, while the last two great companies, Tempestas and Genrich, are locked in an uneasy alliance for the betterment of mankind. But life is about to change dramatically as a lonely museum curator with a talent for drawing and an explorer’s daughter with a rare gift are caught up in a race for absolute power which threatens final extinction."
