Profile Books will publish Shaun Bythell's Seven Kinds of People You Find in Bookshops in November.
Editorial director Cecily Gayford acquired world all language and audio rights from Jenny Brown at Jenny Brown Associates. The title will be published on 5th November 2020.
Bythell has owned The Bookshop in Wigtown since 2001. Seven Kinds of People You Find in Bookshops is a "guide to the flora and fauna waiting to be rediscovered" in local bookshops.
Gayford said: "Shaun is an indispensable part of the Profile list, and we’re beyond delighted to have another brilliant book with him. Seven Kinds of People You Find in Bookshops is everything you’d expect from the author of Diary of a Bookseller: witty, mordant and filled with unexpected nuggets of literary history and bookshop wisdom. It’s even – although Shaun doesn’t want you to find out – actually pretty warm and affectionate too."
Bythell commented: "After the publication of The Diary of a Bookseller, a reader pointed out that I had made completely unfair, sweeping generalisations about the customers on whom I depend for a living. Confessions of a Bookseller just made these even worse. Seven Kinds of People You Find in Bookshops is likely to offend almost everyone who has ever crossed the threshold of a bookshop."
Profile Books published Bythell's The Diary of a Bookseller in 2017 and Confessions of a Bookseller in 2019.
