YA author Alwyn Hamilton has sold a new series to Faber Children’s in the UK and Viking at Penguin Random House in the US.
Set in the same world as Hamilton’s Rebel of the Sands trilogy, though on a different continent and generations apart, the trilogy is based in a 1920s society reliant on magic to keep itself safe from the dangers of the forest. In The Notorious Virtues, the first book in the series, the younger generation of the Holtzfall family must compete in trials to determine who is the most virtuous and therefore most worthy of inheriting control of the family and their money.
Alice Swan, editorial director for Faber Children’s, acquired the UK and Commonwealth rights from Molly Ker Hawn of Bent Agency and will publish in May 2020.
“Alwyn is a first-class storyteller with an unparalleled imagination and an incredible talent for world building,” said Swan. “She shot straight to the top with her Rebel of the Sands trilogy and The Notorious Virtues is equally showstopping. An enormously wealthy and glamorous family competing to become heir to generations worth of their family’s accumulated magic and wealth: the plot is irresistible.”
