Vogue the Shoe to Conran Octopus

Conran Octopus, part of the Octopus Publishing Group, is set to release Vogue the Shoe in September as the latest title in its Vogue Portfolio series.

The £75 book features a collection of more than 200 "fabulous" images, from the "humble clog" to "fetishistic cuissardes and outrageous statement heels", and will be authored by Harriet Quick, an award-winning journalist and former fashion features director of British Vogue.

It will be organised into five thematic chapters: "dazzling Cinderella heels"; "Town & Country classics"; "Cult Style inspiration"; "the escapism of Summer Dreaming" and "extreme heels of Fetish & Fantasia".

Vogue’s editor in chief, Alexandra Shulman - who is currently writing an insider's diary of Vogue's centenary year for Penguin - has written a foreword to the book. The front cover of the silk-bound title features a silver-blocked drawing created by Manolo Blahnik for Vogue.

Octopus publisher Alison Starling acquired world rights from Condé Nast’s agent, Julian Alexander at LAW.

Shoes give great pleasure to women of all ages and Harriet Quick’s incisive text provides an enticing exploration of our fascination with shoes in their many forms. It looks set to be the most successful book in the series yet."

Quick has worked in the fashion and design arena for 20 years, and was fashion features director of British Vogue from 2000 to 2012. She said: "It was such a great pleasure diving into the Vogue archives - the fantastic array of imagery of shoes through a century tells a history of women and fashion, of society, changing roles and above all the capacity of what we wear on our feet to invoke dreaming. True for the fantasy Manolo Blahnik mule that adorns the cover; the fad for ethnic clogs in the 1970s; the enduring British love of the gumboot as it is for thigh high laced boots and rhinestone encrusted stilettos. My own shoe wardrobe increased by numerous pairs."
