Ebury Spotlight will publish Bring Me the Head of the Taskmaster in September, written by "Taskmaster" star Alex Horne.
The programme is a BAFTA-winning and International Emmy-nominated comedy game show, starring comedians Greg Davies, acting as Taskmaster, and his assistant Horne. They test five comedians through a series of surreal challenges for the show, which recently moved to Channel 4. The publication of the book in September will coincide with its 12th series, airing later this year.
“This book will contain 101 next-level tasks and clues that will lead one ordinary person to some extraordinary Taskmaster treasure,” the publisher said. “Bring Me the Head of the Taskmaster offers readers the full 'Taskmaster' experience. Part game, part treasure hunt, this painstakingly plotted, carefully crafted collection of preposterous tasks is a fully interactive guide to indulging your competitive streak. Rivalry is encouraged, dodgy tactics rewarded and bribes accepted. It requires readers to think, draw, jump and act outside of the box, as they race to uncover the head of the Taskmaster. It is to books what 'Taskmaster' is to TV – uniquely original and deviously addictive.”
Yvonne Jacob, Ebury editorial director, acquired UK Commonwealth rights from talent management company Avalon.
Jacob said: “We are delighted to be working with Alex and the team at Avalon on another brilliant 'Taskmaster' project. This is the book 'Taskmaster' fans have been waiting for – a once in a lifetime opportunity to put their wits and skills to the test in pursuit of the ultimate 'Taskmaster' treasure.”
Horne said: “Bring Me The Head of The Taskmaster is a unique chance for one person to prove they are the ultimate Tasker. This interactive book is more than just a spin off, it provides a unique 'Taskmaster' experience into which you can dive and then swim around in search of treasure. As well as delivering nearly countless bespoke tasks that anyone can do, it will lead just one person to their very own Taskmaster trophy.”
He added: “I'm constantly surprised and delighted by the ingenuity of people who have taken 'Taskmaster' to their heart, and how fans have run with ideas from the show, so good luck everyone. Your time starts now.”
A previous "Taskmaster" book, Taskmaster: 220 Extraordinary Tasks for Ordinary People, was written by Horne and published by BBC Books in 2018.
