John Murray Press imprint Nicholas Brealey has acquired The Promises of Giants, a guide to leadership by organisational psychologist and former professional basketball player John Amaechi.
The synopsis reads: "The Promises of Giants is a challenge to anyone who aspires to make a difference in their environment, be it in your small team, your multinational corporation, or public office. Over 14 promises, Amaechi seamlessly intertwines personal anecdotes and hands-on experience, with the latest research, to provide practical, proven tips and strategies to empower you to maximize your own potential and inspire others. It is not a self-help book. It is a how-to guide for winning, rooted in the belief that the most unlikely of people, in the most improbable of circumstances, can become extraordinary."
Publishing director Iain Campbell acquired world rights from Nick Walters at David Luxton Associates, for publication on 22nd July 2021.
Campbell said: "John had us with his first line: 'The most unlikely of people, in the most improbable of circumstances, can become extraordinary'. His calm and measured voice has cut through the noise of recent years and now he’s put all of that insight and wisdom into The Promises of Giants to help people step up and fill the leadership void to improve our societies and workplaces. It’s an important book and we are delighted to be publishing it here at NB."
Amaechi commented: "I am hugely excited to see how readers will use insights I’ve benefited from over the years to enhance their own lives. I believe that there is no better time for people to ‘find their inner giant’ than now. My hope is that readers will use The Promises of Giants to understand themselves, discover their purpose and channel their ambition to make their world just that little bit better."
Amaechi's memoir, Man in the Middle: My Life in and Out of Bounds, was published by ESPN Books in 2008.
