HQ has picked up a “no-holds-barred” memoir from from Janice Nix, ex-offender turned Probation Service engagement officer, with writer Elizabeth Sheppard.
Kate Fox, editorial director, acquired world all language rights from David Riding at MBA. Breaking Out will be published in March 2021 in paperback, e-book and audiobook.
The synopsis reads: “Breaking Out is the no-holds-barred account of Janice Nix, a former Class A drug dealer who rose to the top of London’s underworld—only to lose it all in one last roll of the dice. From stealing furs in Harrods to a helicopter chase on the M1 to the bleak despair of her last jail sentence, Janice had seen it all—and she wanted to make a change. Once she’d served her time, Janice joined the probation service. Now, Janice devotes her life to making sure other girls in her position don’t repeat her mistakes.”
Nix said: “I am so excited to have the opportunity to tell my story, with the help and support of the fantastic HQ team, David Riding from the MBA Literary Agency and my writer Elizabeth Sheppard. I'm not proud of my criminal past—but I want to use it to make a difference now.”
Fox added: “From the first time I met Janice, I knew I was in the presence of someone extraordinary. Janice has a rare gift—to take the harshest of her own life experiences and use them to help someone else in need. I can’t wait to share her journey with the world.”
