Nosy Crow has landed three more titles in its co-founder Camilla Reid's Peekaboo slider board series, illustrated by Ingela P Arrhenius.
Kate Wilson, Nosy Crow's m.d., acquired world language rights for the books direct from the author.
The indie children's press, which has already released seven titles in the series, will publish three more this year with Peekaboo Chick, Peekaboo Baby and Peekaboo Pumpkin. The deal has secured three more, the first of which, Peekaboo Lion, will publish in 2023, followed by Peekaboo Garage and Peekaboo Santa, which are working titles.
“Peekaboo is the UK’s fastest growing new board book novelty series," said Wilson. "We are delighted to have signed up three further titles from our longstanding pre-school illustration star, Ingela P Arrhenius, and from the hugely talented Camilla Reid, now working with us in her new capacity as an author.”
The deal marks Reid's first signings as a newly independent author. Reid is a co-founder of Nosy Crow, and was its editorial director for 11 years. She was shortlisted for an Editor of the Year Nibbie in 2017 and 2021, and the series was also shortlisted in the Brand and Series category. In September 2021, she announced she would be stepping back from her role running the pre-school and novelty list, to work on individual projects. So far, Nosy Crow has sold titles in the Peekaboo series in 19 languages, totalling 600,000 copies since the series launch in October 2020, according to the publisher.
"I’m so pleased with the reception we’ve had for this series," Reid said. "The books are all about connection and joy – and that's something young families are desperate for right now, I think. We'll kick off 2023 with Peekaboo Lion, which promises to be a gorgeous, super-commercial addition to the range and, I hope, will help it reach a whole bunch of new readers."
Nosy Crow confirmed a new publishing TV tie-in series featuring Reid's and Axel Scheffler's Pip and Posy picture books, in addition to a new selection of merchandise based on the preschool titles.
