Nosy Crow has bought another middle-grade title, Game Zero, by Christopher Edge, as sales of his 2022 bestseller surpass the 100,000 Total Consumer Market mark.
Kirsty Stansfield, publishing director for fiction at Nosy Crow acquired world rights from Lucy Juckes at Jenny Brown Associates. Slated for spring 2025, the new book is dubbed a combination of "Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow on the set of The Legend of Zelda".
“Exploring themes of friendship, imagination and creativity, Game Zero is a breathtaking immersive adventure that mixes action, puzzles and mystery to tell a thrilling and thought-provoking story about the power games give us to reimagine the world.”
This acquisition comes amid news that Edge’s Escape Room (Nosy Crow) has sold more than 100,000 units since publication in 2022, according to Nielsen Bookscan.
Edge is currently on an extensive schools and bookshop promotional tour to celebrate the launch of his adventure, Black Hole Cinema Club (Nosy Crow), which published on 14th March.
Nosy Crow said: “During the tour, Christopher has so far visited over 3,000 children in schools across the country, from Gloucestershire to Bath, London, Oxfordshire, Leicester, Retford, Newcastle, Stockton and Liverpool. As part of this tour, Christopher celebrated the book’s publication with a hugely successful public launch event at Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle in collaboration with Opt Indie Books, speaking to children, families, bloggers and local authors in one of their atmospheric community screens.”
Edge said: “It’s been a real thrill to see how many readers have ventured inside the Escape Room, and, as it hits 100,000 sales through the TCM, I’d like to thank everyone who’s helped readers discover this book.
“As I’ve launched Black Hole Cinema Club with interactive events across the country, I’ve been reminded of the hunger that’s out there for these immersive mind-bending adventures. Stories can help us to make sense of and escape from the world. But they can also inspire us to build a better world, and, in Game Zero, I wanted to give readers an adventure like no other as well as a thought-provoking, empowering story about reimagining the world.”
Juckes said: “Christopher Edge continues to keep readers on the edge of their seats with another page-turning adventure, and I’m so delighted that this will be published by the brilliant Nosy Crow team, especially following the TCM success of Escape Room and the exciting upcoming plans for Black Hole Cinema Club.”
Stansfield commented: “Every time you think Christopher can’t possibly do it again – he does. He writes perfectly plotted, hugely original and completely addictive adventures that entertain and elucidate in equal measure. We’re so proud to be his publishers.”
