Nosy Crow has scooped Destiny Ink, a "wonderfully warm" four-book series written and illustrated by Adeola Sokunbi. The series was created in partnership with the inclusive children’s fiction studio Storymix.
Zöe Griffiths, editorial director for fiction, bought world rights in the four books from Jasmine Richards at Storymix. The first book in the series, Sleepover Surprise, will publish in the UK in June 2024, with the second, Talent Show Magic, following in October of the same year. The third and fourth titles will be published in February and June 2025, and the series will also be published with Nosy Crow Inc.
Destiny Ink is described as a "perfectly accessible, highly illustrated series" for readers over five years old. The synopsis of Sleepover Surprise says: "Destiny can’t wait for her first ever sleepover. But she also can’t help being a little anxious, so she uses her special sketchbook to doodle how she feels. That night, she finds a monster in her room. He’s come for a sleepover, but he’s not sure he’s ready. Can Destiny help him?"
Sokunbi said: “Working on the Destiny Ink series has been such an amazing experience and I hope that you fall in love with Destiny as much as we have.”
Griffiths added: “I always look to Storymix for the freshest and most diverse proposals, but they have truly outdone themselves this time, pairing the adorable character of Destiny Ink with the talent of debut Adeola Sokunbi. I can’t think of a better way to encourage young readers to explore creativity and imagination than these books.”
Richards, founder of Storymix, commented: "Storymix has always strived to be a beacon for creative storytelling. This series captures the essence of what we stand for: championing fresh voices and giving a platform to talent.
"Adeola is that rare creative who can write and draw and knows exactly what details to include to bring a character to life."
