Octopus Publishing Group’s nature imprint Gaia is partnering with the RSPB on the RSPB Great British Birdwatcher’s Puzzle Book.
Nicky Crane, commissioning editor, acquired world rights directly from the RSPB and the author, ornithologist Dominic Couzens. The book will publish in paperback on 27th October 2022 and be co-authored by Gareth Moore.
Described by the publisher as “a must-have for the bird-watching novice or experienced twitcher”, the book will feature more than 150 different puzzles, including trivia questions, crosswords, anagrams, and wordsearches, plus illustrations. Topics covered will include garden birds, coastal and country birds, bird behaviour, biology, culture and bird migration.
Couzens has written several popular books on birds, including The Pocket Guide to Garden Birds (Mitchell Beazley), and contributed to magazines such as BBC Wildlife Magazine, Birdwatching and Birds. Moore is a puzzle expert who has authored numerous books, including The Ordnance Survey Puzzle Book (Trapeze) and The Mindfulness Puzzle Book (Robinson).
Crane said: “Not only is the RSPB the largest nature conservation charity in the country, it’s one of Britain’s most beloved, so we’re absolutely thrilled to have struck this partnership together – and with expert ornithologist Dominic Couzens and master quiz setter Dr Gareth Moore on board, it’s a real dream team.
“We know that many more people have taken up birdwatching over the years, especially over lockdown, and this puzzle book will be a fun way to test our knowledge and learn more about our flighty companions! It’ll be a really lovely, gifty book, perfect for puzzle fans and bird enthusiasts alike”.
Louisa Skevington, RSPB product licensing manager, said: “We are delighted to be working with Octopus and their teams on this wonderful new book, which contains such an exciting breadth of knowledge and puzzle formats. Fun, educational and accessible to customers with all levels of bird expertise, it’s a perfect gift.”
