Oliver Jeffers and Drew Daywalt’s next book, The Day the Crayons Made Friends will be published by HarperCollins in June 2025.
It follows the bestselling picture books The Day the Crayons Quit and The Day the Crayons Came Home. Alice Blacker, publishing director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from agent Paul Moreton. The book will be published concurrently in the US by Philomel, an imprint of Penguin Random House.
The blurb reads: "Duncan opens his crayon box one day to find that all his crayons have disappeared—again. But where have they gone? A perfect collaboration of words and pictures come together again to create another hilarious and iconic Crayons classic."
Blacker said: "This is the picture book we’ve all been waiting for. Oliver and Drew have created something truly visionary and totally hilarious with these picture books. This new addition to the series is set to delight readers new and old."
Daywalt said: "The Day the Crayons Made Friends is a peek into the toy chest of my childhood heart, and I think when readers look inside, they’ll see that all of our childhood hearts are very much the same."
Jeffers said: "We all need to make friends, and it seems the colourful sticks of wax in our kids’ art boxes are no exception. Personally, I wish I’d got an invite to the dinner party they all threw."
The Day the Crayons Quit and The Day the Crayons Came Home have collectively spent more than 400 weeks on the New York Times Bestsellers list and have won several awards.
