HarperCollins has acquired These Delicious Things, “an ode to the joys of eating", by Jane Hodson, Lucas Hollweg and Clerkenwell Boy and with contributions from the likes of Stanley Tucci, Andi Oliver and Nigella Lawson.
Stephanie Milner, publishing director at Pavilion, acquired world all-language rights from Charlie Brotherstone at Brotherstone Creative Management. These Delicious Things will be published on 9th November 2023 in hardback and e-book.
Charity Magic Breakfast, which provides healthy school breakfasts to children at risk of hunger in disadvantaged areas of the UK, will receive 100% of the publishers’ net profit from sales of this book.
The book will include over 100 recipes based on food memories donated by chefs and food writers including Oliver, Tucci and Lawson as well as Angela Hartnett, Asma Khan, Ching He Huang, Jamie Oliver, Nigel Slater, Ravneet Gill, Raymond Blanc, Thomasina Miers, Tom Kerridge, Yotam Ottolenghi and Zoe Adjonyoh.
The publisher says: “[The book’s] aim is to share these intimate food moments while raising vital funds for Magic Breakfast; a charity aiming to end child morning hunger as a barrier to education in schools across England and Scotland, through the provision of healthy breakfasts to children living with food insecurity.”
Hodson said: “As a book, These Delicious Things is a beautiful collective memoir of nostalgic food memories and the recipes they inspired. It’s also tangible proof that when individuals collaborate, giving a little piece of themselves for the benefit of others, wonderful things can happen. My hope is for it to raise significant funds for Magic Breakfast and their mission that no child in the UK be too hungry to learn.”
Milner commented: “As a nation, we are currently at risk of our worst levels of food poverty. So, when I first learnt of Jane, Lucas and Clerkenwell Boy’s mission to publish a collection of recipes and writing from the very best chefs in the UK to raise money for Magic Breakfast, I just knew we had to help them reach as many readers and make as many sales as possible.”
Lindsey MacDonald, chief executive of Magic Breakfast, added: “Magic Breakfast is thrilled to benefit from the proceeds of These Delicious Things. This amazing and generous collection of recipes from some of the country’s most well-known chefs has been wrapped up beautifully in one book.
"Not only will this make the most perfect Christmas present, but buyers can feel good in the knowledge that they have helped provide the gift of a healthy nutritious breakfast to schoolchildren who might otherwise be too hungry to learn.”
