ONE bags Maclear’s ‘masterful’ book of family and plants

Pushkin imprint ONE has bagged Unearthing: A Story of Tangled Love and Family Secrets, a “transformative” story about life, love and plants, from Kyo Maclear. 

Deputy publisher Laura Macaulay acquired British Commonwealth rights from Meg Wheeler at Westwood Creative Artists on behalf of Jackie Kaiser. The book will be published in the UK in March 2024, as well as by Scribner in the US and by Knopf in Canada. 

Unearthing is a “masterful” work following Maclear’s discovery of a long-held family secret after she discovered her father was not biologically related to her and her search for the story of her birth. The publisher added: “A search interwoven with the seasons, plant life and making a garden.”

Macaulay said: “This masterful work of non-fiction tells the gripping story of one woman’s search for the identity of her birth father, full of twists and turns, interwoven with a personal botanical history. It is a bold consideration of human relationships and connections: moving, generous, beautiful – I’m delighted to be Kyo Maclear’s UK publisher.”
