One More Chapter has inked a four-book deal with British Book Award shortlisted author Evie Woods, whose The Lost Bookshop was a digital-first hit that has later turned into print bestseller in bookshops.
Publisher Charlotte Ledger acquired world all-language rights directly from the author for three previously self-published novels and one new title. The Story Collector, the first book in the deal, will be published in July 2024. The Lost Bookshop, Woods’ debut, has been shortlisted for this year’s Pageturner Book of the Year Award at the British Book Awards. The Story Collector will bring "the same magic and escapism" as her first novel, One More Chapter said.
The Story Collector is set in a quiet village in Ireland, where "a mysterious local myth is about to change everything…" American Sarah Harper, captivated by the land of folklore and superstition, boards a plane in New York bound for the west coast of Ireland. But on arrival, "she finds she has unearthed dark secrets – secrets that tread the line between the everyday and the otherworldly, the seen and the unseen".
Irish author Woods lived and worked in Canada for much of her twenties before moving back to her native Galway and beginning her writing career. She self-published three books before One More Chapter signed up The Lost Bookshop, which went on to be a Kindle number one in both the Britain and the US and it has sold over 105,000 print units through BookScan UK.
Woods said: "This is such a special moment and I can’t wait to share with everyone what’s coming next. One More Chapter is the perfect fit for my books and Charlotte Ledger has been a true champion of my storytelling."
Ledger added: "Evie’ weaves magic into her words and warmth into her characters, and it’s no surprise hundreds of thousands of readers have fallen in love with her writing. I am proud and excited to be publishing Evie’s new books and to build on the success of such a special book like The Lost Bookshop, knowing much more is still to come."
