One More Chapter has signed The Clique, the debut thriller from Rhiannon Barnsley in a two-book deal.
Editorial director Jennie Rothwell acquired world English language rights from Rachel Neely at Mushens Entertainment. The Clique will be published as a lead summer thriller in all formats in summer 2024.
"’I’m so thrilled that Rhiannon has found a home at One More Chapter," said Neely. "Jennie’s clear vision for the book, keen editorial insights and strong ambition for The Clique made her the clear choice.”
The synopsis reads: "When a prestigious lawyer falls to her death from the company’s roof terrace, promising young lawyer Cassandra Harlow is shocked. But as she starts to put the pieces together, it becomes apparent the death might not have been the tragic accident the press are claiming, and that an exclusive female-only society that promises to fast-track women into positions of power, might have a dark side to it. After all, their policy is one in, one out, and the only way a space becomes available is if someone leaves or dies."
Rothwell said: “I’m always looking for thrillers than have something unique and standout in their pitch, and from the first page of Rhiannon’s novel I knew it was something special. I love an exposé and getting to see the dark side of the law up close and personal was terrifying and exhilarating. The focus on female empowerment is so strong but the dark underside really shows the lengths people go to, to get to the top. I’m delighted to welcome Rhiannon to One More Chapter and for her to join such a stellar line-up of thriller writers.”
Barnsley added: “I am so happy to have found a home at One More Chapter. I’ve admired their books for years and I can’t believe I now get to call myself one of their authors. I know my book is in great hands with Jennie."
