One More Chapter, an imprint of HarperCollins, has scooped a two-book deal with previously self-published author Rebecca J Caffery for two queer sport romances.
Publisher Charlotte Ledger acquired world all-language rights directly from the author. Pole Position, an enemies-to-lovers story set in the world of motor racing, will be published in the spring. Two Can Play That Game will follow later this year.
Pole Position has been pitched as Casey McQuiston’s Red, White & Royal Blue (Pan Macmillan) meets Formula One, following Kian Walker, a four-time championship winner, and his new teammate Harper James. The publisher continued: "Harper’s the opposite of Kian in every way. But when the season starts, there’s no getting away from him. This might be one of the most dangerous sports in the world, so why then does Kian’s heart feel safer flying around the track at 220mph than when he’s anywhere near his teammate?"
Caffery said: "The chance to write more queer sports romance books is a dream come true and I could not be more excited to have found a publishing home with One More Chapter, HarperCollins. Working with Charlotte Ledger has been an absolute dream and I’m thankful that she’s pushing me to be the best romance author I can be."
Ledger added: "You’d have to be living under a rock not to notice the increase in popularity of F1 romances; however, I’ve been looking for one that offers something a bit different and, as a huge fan of Red, White & Royal Blue, I knew I’d found it when I read Rebecca’s proposal. In her two main characters, Rebecca has created incredible chemistry that leaps off the page, all the fire of the best enemies to lovers meet-cutes and a believable, emotional love story that keeps you turning the pages. I’m so excited to introduce readers across the globe to an exciting new voice in romantic comedy."
