Oneworld has acquired Guardian First Book Award finalist Diane Cook’s “passionate, tender and terrifying” debut novel, The New Wilderness.
Publisher Juliet Mabey acquired UK and Commonwealth Rights (excluding Canada) from Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein on behalf of Rebecca Gardner at the Gernert Company. The New Wilderness will be published in hardback 6th August 2020.
The synopsis says: “The New Wilderness is a contemporary, literary tale about ecological disaster, coupled with a deeply personal story of a mother-daughter relationship. It tells the story of a group of idealistic men and women who decide to leave their over-polluted city behind to set up a new community in the wild.”
Mabey said: “Diana Cook’s short stories absolutely blew me away and I couldn’t wait to publish her debut novel. She is an absolute star and her writing just gets better and better.”
Cook’s short-story collection Man v Nature (Oneworld) was shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award in 2015 and the LA Times Book Prize. Oneworld will reissue Man v Nature in paperback in May 2020.
