Oneworld has scooped journalist Rachel Shabi’s "landmark" book on anti-Semitism, Off-White: The Truth About Antisemitism, following a five-way auction.
Editorial director Cecilia Stein acquired UK and Commonwealth right, including electronic and audiobook, from Andrew Gordon at David Higham. The book will be published on 7th November 2024.
Off-White "offers urgent analysis of... the contingency of whiteness, Judeo-Christian myth-making, pro-Israel antisemitism, and the Palestinian struggle against colonialism".
Shabi said: "While this book was commissioned in the summer of 2023, the events of 7th October, the Israel-Gaza war and the global surge in anti-Semitism have made our understanding of this issue all the more urgent and necessary."
Stein added: "This is a daring intervention at a time of heightened sensitivity. Nothing about this topic is straightforward but the pithy soundbites and dangerous synonymising aren’t working. Rachel shows that we don’t need to force anti-Semitism into competition with other axes of oppression. If we can recognise the complexity at the heart of all this, we might create more meaningful coalitions."
