Orbit UK has signed Greenteeth, a “heartwarming fantasy tale of fae, folklore and found family” by debut novelist Molly O’Neill.
Senior commissioning editor Emily Byron acquired world English language rights from Sam Edenborough at Greyhound Literary. Orbit will publish in early 2025.
The novel tells the story of Jenny Greenteeth, a lake-dwelling monster from British folklore, whose peaceful existence is shattered when a witch is thrown into her lake. The synopsis goes on: “Jenny has never even spoken to a human before, but something makes her decide Temperance is worth saving. Though they have nothing in common, these two must band together on a magical quest to defeat the evil that threatens Temperance’s family and Jenny’s lake, as well as the very soul of Britain."
Byron said: “This quirky, warm-hearted book charmed me from the very first page. I fell head over heels for Jenny and her wonderfully unique voice and I can’t wait to introduce her to readers. This book is the perfect treat for anyone looking for their next cosy read.
Edenborough said: “Jenny Greenteeth is one of the most charming and original narrators I’ve encountered in fantasy fiction and Molly O’Neill’s novel captivates from the first page. Jenny’s voice is totally beguiling. I think readers will love her authentically non-human perspective and dry humour.
“I am so proud to help bring Molly’s talent to a wide readership and it’s exciting to be working with Emily Byron and the brilliant Orbit team who were, like me, instantly smitten by Jenny and her world.”
O’Neill said: “I am delighted to be working with Orbit and I’m very excited for readers to dive into Jenny’s world.”
