Orbit has signed début author Kat Enright’s début novel Mistress of Lies, described by the publisher as “a dark romantic fantasy with a villainous, bloodthirsty heroine”.
Commissioning editor Nadia Saward acquired world English language rights from Jennifer Azantia at Azantian Literary Agency. Senior editor Priyanka Krishnan acquired for Orbit US, with simultaneous publication planned for 2024.
Saward said: “Kat has written an exceptional fantasy with a wonderfully morally grey heroine and a blood-drenched vampiric magic system that held me in thrall. This book is queer to its core and I can’t wait for readers to be swooning over Shan, Samuel and Isaac.”
Enright, a Filipino-American writer of romantic fantasy for adult and teens, said of the deal: “I am so honoured that Mistress of Lies has found its perfect home at Orbit with Nadia and Priyanka.
“This book is near and dear to my heart, as someone who has never fit neatly within the boxes that society has made for me. I am excited to share Shan, Samuel and Isaac with the world. They are messy and imperfect, trying to do their best with the hand that they were dealt, and I hope you love them as much as I do.”
