Orion Fiction has acquired five books in Elise Kova’s Married to Magic series, originally self-published under the author’s own publishing imprint Silver Wing Press, founded in 2015 to publish her debut, Air Awakens.
Rhea Kurien, editorial director at Orion Fiction, acquired UK and Commonwealth print rights to all five books in the series directly from the author. Only three are out so far, and the author will still be self-publishing the titles outside the UK and Commonwealth.
According to the publisher, over half a million copies of the first three books in the Married to Magic series – which kicks off with A Deal with the Elf King – have been sold worldwide. Each book is a standalone set in the Married to Magic world, and the stories are inspired by Greek mythology and classic fairy tales.
A Duet with the Siren Duke, the fourth book in the series, will be published by Kova in August 2023, with Orion publishing the first four titles in the series in paperback on 19th October 2023. The fifth book in the series will be published simultaneously by Kova and Orion in autumn 2024.
Since her debut, Kova has gone on to self-publish several novels including the Married to Magic Series, A Trial of Sorcerers series and the Loom Saga. A new adult romantic fantasy trilogy, Arcana Academy, will be published by Hodderscape in 2025.
Kurien said: “I still remember reading the first few lines of A Deal with the Elf King and knowing instantly that I was in the hands of a master storyteller. Elise conjures immersive worlds you simply want to live in, with enthralling love stories at the heart of each novel.”
Kova said: “I can’t wait to see romantasy readers in the UK and Commonwealth have greater access to my work. I’m very happy to partner with Rhea and the Orion team and can’t wait to share with everyone all the stories and editions to come.”
