Orion Spring has acquired a "powerful" guide on recovering from an eating disorder and "reaching body positivity", by Instagram star Amalie Lee.
Redefining Healthy shares 21-year-old Lee's journey to recovery from an eating disorder, whose posts have inspired, comforted, and educated 100,000 followers on Instagram, including those directly affected by eating disorders. The book will draw on her own experiences, those of others in recovery, facts and expert advice, breaking down food myths and shedding light on issues such as orthorexia (an obsession with eating foods that one considers healthy). It will also contain advice, motivation and self-help exercises for the reader.
Amanda Harris, publisher for Orion Spring, bought UK and Commonwealth rights (including Canada) and European rights from Susan Smith at MBA Literary Agency.
Harris said: "Amalie is a true inspiration. She writes so powerfully about her recovery back to health from the very depths of despair and life-threatening frailty. With its honestly and clarity, this book will help so many on their own paths to recovery. It will also help loved-ones understand the complexities of eating disorders, including anorexia, and how best to help when feeling completely helpless. Redefining Healthy is an important book and I am so proud to be its publisher."
Lee said: “My book will touch upon important topics concerning what health and wellbeing really is, in a society full of conflicting messages. The aim of Redefining Healthy is to help heal a disordered relationship with food and body, so it means a lot to me personally that Orion Spring won’t be publishing dieting books. As a young, new author I am certain my work is in good hands, and I am thrilled to work with such a positive and innovative team. I hope and believe my book will help improve lives.”
Redefining Healthy will be published in trade paperback and e-book, priced £12.99, on 9th March 2017.
