Orion Spring has signed The Book Your Cat Wishes You Would Read by feline behaviourist Lucy Hoile.
Editorial director Jessica Duffy bought world rights for Orion Spring in an exclusive deal directly with the author. The publisher says the book will be the follow-up to Louise Glazebrook’s The Book Your Dog Wishes You Would Read (Orion Spring, 2021), with publication scheduled for 9th November 2023.
The publisher says that, in the book, Hoile “gives you all the information you could ever need to build an even better, happier relationship with your cat”.
“Lucy is speaking directly to you, the carer, and is here to support you on this amazing journey,” it goes on. “Cats are an enigmatic species and their behaviour is subtle and difficult to read. Because of this, it’s not always easy to understand what they need from us and our relationship with them can suffer as a result. Armed with Lucy’s invaluable advice you will feel excited and empowered to feel even closer to your cat and build a more loving, patient and rewarding relationship for life.”
Hoile is a feline behaviourist who has been improving the lives of cats and their carers since 2010, as well as lecturing internationally. She completed a Master’s degree in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling at the University of Southampton and is one of only a handful of exclusively feline clinical animal behaviourists practising in the UK.
She said: “Cats have a reputation for being aloof and independent, however they rely on us much more than it may seem. That being said, they are notoriously difficult to read and it is not always clear when their needs are not being completely met.
“There is no such thing as the perfect caregiver, even those lucky enough to share their whole lives with cats experience moments of uncertainty, questioning if they are doing the right thing for their mysterious feline companions. This book is here to help you decode the mysteries of your cat’s behaviour, providing exactly what they need and strengthening the relationship between you and your cat."
Duffy said: “After meeting Lucy, I knew she was the perfect person to write this book. Lucy is warm, compassionate and a true expert on what it means to care for your cat and enjoy every step of the journey alongside them. This book will be the perfect gift for any new cat owner or for those people who want to feel more connected to their feline friends.”
