Orion Spring has acquired world rights to You Deserve Better by nine-time Brit Award nominee and coach on ITV's "The Voice", Anne-Marie.
The singer's debut book will be part-memoir, part practical self-help, and will draw on Anne-Marie's experiences to help readers tackle life’s challenges, embrace opportunities and celebrate their successes, said the publisher.
An ambassador for mental health charity Mind, Anne-Marie aims to open up the conversation around mental health and her book will be a toolkit for managing the ups and downs of life, from looking inward to subjects such as friendships and body image, to looking outward at building a career and coping with social media.
Anne-Marie commented: "This past year has been a lot to deal with and like many people, I’ve found it’s had a real impact on my brain. I’ve always been really honest about wanting to open up the conversation around what goes on inside our heads, from what I say on my socials to my work with Mind and my upcoming album, 'Therapy' – it just matters so much. That’s why I’m so excited to have written a book that brings all my thoughts and advice that I’ve been given in my life so far into one place, and I can’t wait for it to hit the bookshops and people to read it."
Ru Merritt, commissioning editor, made the deal with David Riding at the MBA Literary Agency on behalf of Jazmin Sherman at Hunger Mgmt. It will be published in hardback, e-book and audiobook on 30th September 2021.
Merritt said: "Whenever Anne-Marie speaks about her mental health on social media, I feel like she’s speaking directly to me. She has an extraordinary way of lifting people up and her infectious laughter and her ability to make fun of herself is a refreshing antidote to a world where everything feels so serious. I love the book’s structure – first taking a look at how we should take care of ourselves better, before moving on to how to ensure we’re being treated right by the rest of the world – and I know that this will be an invaluable guide for so many. Anne-Marie’s book is the playful, inspiring and practical book we all need and I’m immensely excited we are publishing it."
