Orion Spring will publish Living Well with Chronic Illness: Write your own roadmap to healing in tough times by Grace Quantock this autumn.
Jessica Duffy, editorial director, bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Abi Fellows, formerly at the Good Literary Agency, now DHH Literary Agency.
The book will be published in hardback, trade paperback, eBook and audiobook on 12th September, to coincide with Pain Awareness Month.
Writer, coach and psychotherapeutic counsellor Quantock has used her personal experience of living with chronic illness, as well as thousands of hours of insight from working with disabled and chronically ill clients, to inform her book.
Quantock said: "All too often, those of us living with ongoing health challenges are bombarded with prescriptive advice that doesn’t fit our lived experience. This book isn’t about offering a miracle cure, it’s about acknowledging the complexities of our lives and providing practical tools for readers to define wellness on their own terms. I aim to contribute to this vital conversation, offering readers the tools to write their own roadmap to healing. I’m thrilled to share the news this July, during Disability Pride Month, as we celebrate a moving towards a more nuanced, compassionate and powerful understanding of what it means to live—and live well—with chronic illness."
Duffy said: "It has been such a joy to work with Grace on this book. Her approach to finding a sense of personal wellbeing amidst the challenges of living with chronic illness is practical, compassionate and, most importantly, hopeful. I believe this book will help so many people navigate the many emotions and challenges that arise following a diagnosis, and empower readers to define their own healing, on their own terms."
Quantock is a London Library Emerging Writer and winner of A Writing Chance Award from Michael Sheen and New Writing North. She was shortlisted for the Nan Shepherd Prize in 2021 and the Writers & Artists Working-Class Writers’ Prize.
Her writing has appeared in the Guardian, the Metro, the New Statesman, the Welsh Agenda, the New Yorker Online, the Observer, the Times and many more.
