Independent publisher Ortac Press has acquired This Is Not Who I Am: Our Authenticity Obsession, a collection of six “captivating” essays by journalist Emily Bootle.
Publisher Henry Rowley acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Holly Faulks at Greene & Heaton.
“This is Not Who I Am is a captivating exploration of our modern obsession with authenticity, something that is becoming more significant than ever in our societies as digital culture breeds fakery and capitalism offers the illusion of infinite choice,” Rowley said. “In this climate, finding and being yourself is a more complex idea than it sounds – one that should not necessarily be taken as doctrine. This set of sharp, lively essays moves through pop culture, contemporary literature, identity politics and social media, interrogating what authenticity means today and finding that it is more complex and paradoxical than ever.
“It’s an illuminating, relatable and timely read that I think many people will connect with.”
Bootle is a London-based music and culture writer, currently working for the New Statesman. The collection is her debut, and will publish on 8th November.
