Ortac Press has scooped Pinch Me: Trying to feel real in the 21st century by art historian Francesca Ramsay.
Publisher Henry Rowley acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Holly Faulks at Greene & Heaton. The book will be published on 17th October 2023.
Pinch Me is an “intimate, impassioned” book, with a focus on visual art, on “one of life’s most complex and essential questions: what does it mean to feel real?” The publisher added: “Ramsay investigates what it is to experience reality, the reasons so many of us are feeling the lack of it today, and crucially, how we might be able to get it back.”
An excerpt from the book reads: “There have been moments, see; pinpricks in time that have given me such an essential and triumphant feeling of realness I am for that one split second jolted directly back into myself. I have found it when immersed in bodies of very cold water, when face-to-face with a vast and beautiful view. I have found it in print, loud noise and in utter silence. I have found it in darkness too. But most of all, most consistently, I have found it in art.”
Rowley commented: “I’m very excited to be publishing this wonderful, personal exploration of what it means to feel in touch with reality, present, and aware of our own existence. Francesca’s style is unique, and her ability to capture these concepts through her writing is brilliant and truly impressive. I hope many people will connect deeply with this book.”
