Paige Toon is moving to Century in a two-book deal after 15 years with Simon & Schuster.
Cornerstone m.d. Venetia Butterfield and Century fiction publishing director Emily Griffin acquired world all-language rights, including TV and film, directly from the author. Toon’s first novel with Century will be published in paperback, e-book and audio in spring 2023.
Toon worked at Heat magazine as reviews editor before her debut novel, Lucy in the Sky, was published in 2007 by S&S. She is the author of 15 adult novels and three Young Adult titles, selling over 670,000 copies for £3.1m since first being published in 2007, according to Nielsen BookScan.
Toon said of her move: “It was a heart-wrenching decision to leave my wonderful editor and mentor Suzanne Baboneau and my friends at Simon & Schuster after such a long time. But I am thrilled to be taking this next step in my career with a publisher that I have always held in such high esteem. Venetia, Emily and the dynamic and innovative team at Century ticked every single box on my wish list—and added a few more of their own—and I’m so excited to see what we can achieve together in the years to come.”
Butterfield commented: “I am beyond delighted to welcome Paige Toon to Cornerstone. Paige writes just the kind of emotional, powerful, hypnotic and real novels that I love and it’s clear to see why her readers are some of the most impassioned and committed out there. Her characters are brimming with depth, warmth and originality, and her novels take you on the most extraordinary emotional journey. We have ambitious plans to grow Paige’s readership and we can’t wait for many more readers to discover her unique and unforgettable storytelling.”
Griffin added: “It’s such a thrill to be welcoming Paige to the Century list. Her characters always feel so alive and original on the page and never fail to have me rooting for them from the start and thinking about them long after their story has come to an end. We are buzzing at the prospect of working with Paige as she enters this next phase of growth in her career, and can’t wait for even more readers to fall in love with her writing.”
