Pan Mac gets Theroux's Savile account

Pan Macmillan will publish two books by TV presenter Louis Theroux, the first of which is a “professional memoir” of his time with disgraced children’s entertainer Jimmy Savile.

The deal is believed to be worth almost seven figures.

Pan Macmillan’s Ingrid Connell acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) to the non-fiction titles from Robert Caskie at CaskieMushens, acting in association with Anita Land.

The first, to be published as a lead title in autumn 2019, was described by Theroux as a “forensic and thoughtful appraisal of my life and career” - covering his 2001 BBC documentary “When Louis Met Jimmy” - in which he explores “the nature of evil”.

Theroux added: “I write honestly about some of the stories behind 20 years of making programmes and, in particular, spending time with Jimmy Savile and the impact of discovering that he was a predatory serial sex offender.”
