Pan Macmillan has acquired three “deliciously funny” romantic comedies from Charlotte Stein, including When Grumpy Met Sunshine.
Publishing director for fiction Gillian Green acquired UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada in three novels from Chris Scheina, assistant director for rights at Macmillan USA.
Loosely inspired by Apple TV show “Ted Lasso”, When Grumpy Met Sunshine is the story of a plus-size cheerful ghost writer paired up with the “grumpiest man in football” to write his autobiography. Pan Macmillan will publish in original paperback in February 2024, alongside a trade paperback for export, audio and digital.
Green said: “Charlotte’s delightful and trope-filled rom-com debut made me laugh out loud – this is a wonderfully funny and sexy opposites-attract romance with the grumpiest of heroes finally meeting his match in the sunniest of heroines. It is sheer joy from start to finish!”
Stein, the Romantic Times nominated author of more than 50 short stories, novellas and novels, said: “It’s a dream come true for me to be working with Gillian and the amazing people over at Pan Macmillan on a UK edition of When Grumpy Met Sunshine, and future books in the series. I’m a huge fan of everything they do and as a Brit I’m so excited to see my books in UK shops!”
