Pan Macmillan has acquired the first adult novel to be published in the UK from All the Bright Places author Jennifer Niven. Pan Fiction publisher Francesca Pathak acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to Meet the Newmans from Kerry Nordling at Macmillan US, on behalf of Kerry Sparks at Levine Greenberg Rostan, with Megan Lynch and Caroline Bleeke editing at Flatiron.
The synopsis reads: "Set in sun-drenched 1964 Los Angeles, Meet the Newmans chronicles America’s favourite TV family. Thirty million viewers tune in every week to watch them play airbrushed, flawless versions of themselves. But behind the smiling black-and-white exterior, the Newmans are a mess.
"When a tragic accident sees patriarch Del out of action as producer, director, writer and star of Meet the Newmans, it’s up to his wife, Dinah, to keep the show afloat whilst bringing America’s fantasy family into a new decade."
Pathak said: "I loved All the Bright Places and so when this adult novel landed in my inbox, I couldn’t wait to read. This is a story about the evolution of a family and the dual lives we all live—the version we present to the world and the one that exists behind the scenes when no one is watching. Think Taylor Jenkins Reid, think Bonnie Garmus, all with characters that only Jennifer can write. We are so excited to welcome her to the Pan Fiction list."
Niven said: "I am excited beyond measure to have the chance to bring this story to life and to have found such an extraordinary book home in Pan Macmillan, Francesca Pathak and the entire brilliant team there."
Pan Fiction will publish in hardback in early 2026 alongside Flatiron in the US.
