Pan Macmillan has landed US bestselling novel We are the Brennans, a "heartfelt and emotionally satisfying" debut from Tracey Lange.
Gillian Green, publishing director, bought British Commonwealth rights from Stephanie Cabot at Susanna Lea Associates. Pan will publish the novel in hardback in February 2022 with a trade paperback for export and Ireland. A paperback will follow in September 2022.
We are the Brennans follows a dysfunctional Irish Catholic family living in the New York suburbs and the secrets they are all keeping. The story centres on Sunday Brennan, her return to the family home and business, the reasons why she left and how one harrowing night can change a family forever.
The novel is a New York Times bestseller and has appeared on multiple "books of the summer" lists in the US, including Forbes, NBC and Goodreads as well as featuring on "Good Morning America".
Green commented: "This is an irresistible debut novel – an utterly compelling literary soap opera about the redemptive power of love centred on a wonderfully flawed Irish American family torn apart by secrets. I loved getting to know every one of the Brennans and Tracey’s writing is pitch perfect: richly layered, warm, charming and deliciously addictive."
