Pan Macmillan has bagged Ally Carter’s debut adult novel, The Blonde Identity, a "hilarious, action-packed, road-trip romance".
Assistant editor Kinza Azira acquired UK and Commonwealth rights for a two-book deal from Jenny Meyer at the Jenny Meyer Literary Agency on behalf of Kristin Nelson at Nelson Literary. The novel will be published in the UK in spring 2024 and the UK e-book will be published in August 2023 simultaneously with US publication.
Carter is also known for the YA series the Gallagher Girls (Hachette Children’s). Pitched as "fun action rom-com for the new BookTok generation", The Blonde Identity is a "sizzling" novel following a girl who wakes up in Paris with no memory and becomes a spy after realising she is being hunted.
Azira commented: "I’ve been a fan of Ally’s since the Gallagher Girls, and reading The Blonde Identity was a perfect and long-awaited dose of nostalgia I didn’t realise I so desperately needed — all wrapped in the most refreshingly hilarious rom-com I’ve read in a long while. Belly-achingly funny, and charmingly romantic this is certainly one not to miss. Having Ally on the Pan list is a dream come true."
Carter added: "I have been blessed with the most amazing international readers, and I’m just wowed by Pan Mac’s plan to share The Blonde Identity in the UK, Australia, and points in between. I can’t wait to go on this new mission together."
