Pan Macmillan has nabbed The Lift Home and an untitled second thriller by The House Hunt (Pan Macmillan) author C M Ewan.
Fiction publishing director Vicki Mellor acquired UK and Commonwealth rights for the deal through Camilla Bolton at the Darley Anderson Agency. Pan Macmillan UK will publish The Lift Home in hardback in August 2024 with a mass-market paperback in May 2025.
The new acquisitions are described as "claustrophobic and intense thrillers", starting with The Lift Home which tells the story of a young couple. The synopsis says: "Perfectly pitched for fans of Harlan Coben and T M Logan, this new novel showcases Ewan’s mastery at exploring the deep-seated fears we all have in our psyche."
C M Ewan is a pseudonym for Chris Ewan, the author of mystery and thriller novels including A Window Breaks (Pan Macmillan), The Interview (Pan Macmillan) and the recently published The House Hunt. Ewan’s first standalone thriller, Safe House (Faber), was shortlisted for the Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award. His The Good Thief’s Guide to Amsterdam (Simon & Schuster) won the Long Barn Books First Novel Award and has been published in 13 countries.
He said: “I’m beyond delighted to have signed a new deal with the team at Pan Macmillan. They’ve been so supportive and innovative in publishing my thrillers about how everyday situations can turn deadly, and I can’t wait to explore this theme with them further in The Lift Home and the next book to come.”
His agent Bolton added: “Chris is a remarkable commercial storyteller and writer. This year has been full of wonderful successes with a Spiegel bestseller in Germany, US rights bought at auction by Grand Central for The House Hunt and The Lift Home and the TV rights for The House Hunt being optioned by Eleventh Hour Films.
"We have huge amounts to celebrate and for Chris to continue his amazing partnership with Vicki and the team at Macmillan UK is the enormous cherry on top of this successful year. C M Ewan is an exciting brand to watch – and read!”
Mellor commented: “Chris has had a phenomenal year with impressive growth in paperback sales for The Interview and a fantastic reception to The House Hunt. His international success is growing swiftly. He is a master at creating tension and danger and I can’t wait to see what twists he brings to The Lift Home.
