Pan Macmillan has scooped Audrey Burges’ "magical" debut novel, The Minuscule Mansion of Myra Malone.
Gillian Green, publishing director, acquired British Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Tawanna Sullivan, director of subsidiary rights, at Berkely. The novel will be published in June 2023.
The Minuscule Mansion of Myra Malone is an "enchanting" novel with a "dash of magical realism". Set across multiple periods and perspectives, the story follows the owner of a doll’s house and a man living in the real house on which the doll’s house is based. It will appeal to fans of Jesse Burton, Gail Honeyman and Erin Morgenstern, according to the publisher.
The book cover will be designed by Siobhan Hooper, a designer at Pan Macmillan, and created by artist Hannah Lemmon.
Green commented: "This is a charming, whimsical and utterly enchanting novel. Like many readers I love books about dolls’ houses — and while Myra would quite rightly correct me and say this is a book about a miniature mansion — it’s also gloriously escapist, witty and romantic, with a wonderfully appealing premise, and just the right amount of magic."
Burges added: "I am honoured and delighted that Myra and her Minuscule Mansion are joining the Macmillan family, and I am so grateful to Gillian, Siobhan, Hannah, and everyone else who has added their own enchanting touches to this small world as we bring it to the big one."
