Pan Macmillan has snapped up two more books from husband and wife duo Ellery Lloyd, author of The Club, which was a Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick, and People Like Her, which was a Richard and Judy Book Club Pick.
Publishing director Francesca Pathak acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Emma Finn at C&W alongside Harper US executive editor Sarah Stein, who secured North American rights from Hillary Jacobson at CAA. The Final Act of Juliette Willoughby is the first book in the deal and is described as “a story of love and madness, of obsession and revenge”.
Set in Paris, Cambridge and Dubai the novel connects three suspicious deaths over the course of a century, and how the key to all of them may be hidden in one lost painting. It is scheduled for publication as a hardback in summer 2024.
Pathak said: “I couldn’t be happier to be working on The Final Act of Juliette Willoughby – it’s the most incredible book – imagine if The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair (Maclehose Press) was set in the art world, where nothing is as glamorous as it seems, a theme that is fast becoming the trademark of Ellery Lloyd.”
Stein added: “I am excited to be working on a third book from this talented pair – it’s a delicious read with a big talkable hook. Ellery Lloyd are quick becoming writers mentioned in the same breath as Ruth Ware and Lucy Foley.”
The couple said: “We could not be more happy to continue working with HarperCollins and Pan Macmillan and their amazing teams on both sides of the Atlantic. When you find two editors that you click so well with – and who work so well with each other – it’s a rare and wonderful thing.
"In Sarah and Fran we’ve got exactly that – they’re talented, fun, insightful and strategic and always want the best for the book. They really understand what we are trying to craft with each novel we write as Ellery Lloyd – a darkly glamorous world which immerses and intrigues readers, coupled with a propulsive plot that keeps them turning the pages. And we hope with The Final Act of Juliette Willoughby we do exactly that.”
