Pan Macmillan has scooped Kammy: My Unbelievable Life, the autobiography from television presenter and former footballer Chris Kamara, popularly known as "Kammy".
Publishing director Mike Harpley acquired world rights from Simon Dent. The book will be published on 12th October 2023.
Previously a football analyst at Sky Sports for 23 years, Kamara left the channel after being diagnosed with apraxia, a neurological condition which impacts speech. He continued to present television programmes such as "Ninja Warrior", "Cash in the Attic", "UK’s Strongest Man" and "Proper Football". In 2023, Kamara received an MBE for his charity work, anti-racism campaigning and services to football.
He commented: "I am delighted to be working with the team at Pan Macmillan and I hope readers enjoy this journey into my life, which has been more eventful than most! This book is also the perfect opportunity for me to continue in my quest to raise awareness of my little-known condition, apraxia. Children are born with it every day and are not as lucky as I have been. Help for them must be more forthcoming."
Kammy contains "unforgettable" stories from Kamara’s football career and time as a football manager, "crazy travels" around the world, his battle against apraxia and campaigning work — it "is a riveting ride from one of Britain’s favourite broadcasters".
Harpley added: "Simply put, Kammy is a legend to millions of people and has a brilliant tale to tell. This book will reveal an array of entertaining stories from his fascinating life. As well as the inevitable laughs, it is also a poignant and moving account from a British hero who has come through every challenge with irrepressible optimism and humour."
