Pan Macmillan has acquired the latest novel by New York Times bestselling author Alice Feeney.
Pan Fiction publisher Francesca Pathak acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to Beautiful Ugly from Jonny Geller at Curtis Brown. US rights were bought by sister company Flatiron Books, with executive editor Christine Kopprasch editing.
Translation rights to Beautiful Ugly have already been sold in Germany, Italy and Poland.
Pathak said “The opening of this novel is an Alice Feeney jaw-dropping special in the way you are desperate to find out what could have possibly happened. The book then takes us to a sinister and remote island off the coast of Scotland where the old adage ‘wives think their husbands will change but they don’t; husbands think their wives won’t change but they do’ takes on a whole new terrifying meaning.”
Feeney said “I am so happy, excited, and proud that Beautiful Ugly, my seventh novel and favourite book child, has found a home with Francesca Pathak and the team at Pan Macmillan. This is a book that I wanted to write for a long time. A dark and twisted story about love, and loss, and learning to live in the beautiful ugly world we exist in. I’ve been blown away by the early responses to this novel, and can’t wait to share it with readers.’
Feeney is a former BBC journalist whose novels have been translated into more than 35 languages. His & Hers is being made into a Netflix TV series with Jessica Chastain as executive producer.
Beautiful Ugly will be published in hardback in January 2025.
