Pavilion buys interiors follow-up from Watson-Smyth

Pavilion has bought a companion book to Mad About the House by Kate Watson-Smyth, the author behind the UK’s number one interiors blog.

World rights were acquired from Jane Turnbull by then managing director Katie Cowan. Mad About the House: 101 Interior Design Answers will be published in hardback on 5th March 2020.

The book is billed as “a practical how-to guide answering 101 questions and interior design dilemmas posed by real people who have turned to Kate for advice.”

“The title follows the release of Kate’s bestselling book Mad About the House: How to Decorate Your Home with Style in 2018, also published by Pavilion,” the publisher explained. “If the first book was interior design theory, the new book is the practical side of it. Getting down to the nitty-gritty of interior design, it’s the must-have guide for creating a stylish home.”

Watson-Smyth is an award-winning journalist who has written on interiors and design for publications including the Financial Times, Independent, and Sunday Telegraph. Her website MadAbouttheHouse.com was founded in 2012, and she has over 200,000 followers on Instagram. Her podcast "The Great Indoors", which she co-hosts with Sophie Robinson, is the nation’s most popular interiors podcast, with 500,000 downloads in its first year.

She said: “As soon as I had finished the last book the questions came rolling into the blog, so a practical focus was the logical outcome for the next book. If the first book helps you discover your style, this one will help you work out where to start and, hopefully, answer every question you've ever thought about and some you hadn't. I hope it will be, in short, the 101 of Interior Design.”
