Pavilion Children’s Books signs Katie Cottle
Katie Cottle has signed a two-book deal with Pavilion Children’s Books after winning a competition presented by the publisher last year.
Cottle will turn her Batsford Prize winning entry into a picture book about a girl who discovers a giant made of plants. The Green Giant taps into readers’ concern for the environment and the trend for ‘greening’ cities, according to Pavillion, who will publish the book in paperback next year.
Publisher Neil Dunnicliffe, who acquired world rights from Alice Sutherland-Hawes at Madeleine Milburn Agency, said: “As soon as we saw Katie’s entry to the Batsford Prize we knew we wanted to work with her and decided to offer a book contract there and then at the awards ceremony. Katie is a brilliant illustrator and storyteller and a star in the making. The Green Giant is a funny and optimistic story with stunning illustrations. It carries an important message lightly and with beauty.”
Cottle graduated from the Illustration course at the University of the West of England in 2017 and has since been working as a freelance illustrator.
The Batsford Prize is organised by art book publisher Batsford, which gives prizes for applied art, fine art, fashion and illustration. Pavilion presents the award for children's illustration.
